Main Street paving: a brief explanation

A photo of the Main Street Sign.

The township has received numerous questions about road conditions along Main Street. The following is a concise explanation of the township's multi-phase paving plan:

Paving along Main Street was intentionally stopped at Poplar Ave. because the buried water main was replaced to that point. The rest of Main Street has a concrete water main that is over 100 years old and is being engineered to be replaced with a new water main. The road condition has also prematurely failed due to the shallow trolley tracks in the road.

The township’s plan is to have some minor temporary milling and overlaying areas between Poplar and Mt. Laurel Road on Main Street being careful to not disturb and cause water main breaks to the concrete water main. The water main is being replaced from Lenola Road all the way to Poplar Ave. and removing the trolley tracks along the way.
