Property Tax Information
Property taxes are billed once a year in either late July or early August and contain 4 quarterly tax payment coupons.
Taxes are due: Feb.1, May 1, Aug. 1 and Nov. 1
By resolution, Moorestown permits a 10 day grace period. If the tax bills are mailed late, the grace period for the 3rd quarter payment only is extended to 25 days from the date of mailing.
As per NJSA 54:4-66, payments received after the grace period are charged interest back to the original due date. Interest is charged at 8% per annum for the 1st $1500 of delinquency and 18% per annum for everything over $1,500. There is also a 6% Year End Penalty for delinquent balances over $10,000.
Taxes must be received in our office by the end of the grace period. Postmarks are not acceptable.
If you receive an "Advice Only" tax bill, but do not have a mortgage company, please notify the tax office and use this bill to pay your taxes.
NJSA 54:4-64 states that failure to receive a tax bill does not exempt you from paying taxes or interest on the taxes. It is the homeowner responsibility to contact the Tax Collector's office to ascertain the amount due.
If you have lost your bill and would like a copy, the cost is $4 per copy. Information and a copy of your current bill is available on this website under "Online Payments."
Payment may be made by mail, online, in person, or by your bank's bill pay system. There is also a drop box on the right hand side of the Town Hall Offices door.
All payments placed in box after 1 p.m. will be processed the following day with the followings days' interest if it applies.
In the tax office only checks and cash are accepted.
Please note that the online processor does charge a fee for using your credit card or checking account. If you make a payment using your bank's bill pay system, a physical check is mailed and you should allow 7-10 days for delivery. Postdated checks are not acceptable.
Please note when writing your check that the check is made out to the Township of Moorestown, the written amount matches the numeric number, the check is signed, and dated properly (not postdated).
When making online payments be sure to correctly input your account information and click finish. Your account, at this point, should say payment pending.
All returned checks will be charged a $20 fee and we do not try to redeposit your check.
The Tax Collector is responsible for the billing and collecting of your taxes. The Tax Assessor is responsible for establishing your taxable value (assessment) of your property. Questions regarding your assessment should be directed to the assessor's office.
The Tax Office follows all State Statues regarding property tax collection.
